It becomes a race against the clock to prevent a nuclear catastrophe.
LOGLINE
ELEVATOR PITCH
What if terrorists did not need a bomb to threaten an American city—because they could turn the nuclear reactor itself into the weapon?
Can Walker's soldiers reach the terrorists before time runs out?
PUBLISHING SYNOPSIS
The novel opens in the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks and establishes one of its central ideas: despite increasingly sophisticated security systems, determined terrorists can exploit weaknesses given enough time, patience, and planning. The prologue introduces the author's recurring concept of counterterrorism and the idea embodied in the title—“The Sword of God.”
The story then moves to Afghanistan in October 2001.
Usama bin Laden selects Colonel Mahathir Abdullah al-Shatti for a long-term mission against the United States. Rather than immediately attacking, al-Shatti is instructed to become a sleeper operative and infiltrate American society. His eventual mission will depend upon deception, patience, and the establishment of contacts inside the United States.
Al-Shatti deliberately approaches American forces in Afghanistan and presents himself as a fighter opposed to al-Qa'eda and the Taliban. He is taken into custody by American soldiers and eventually meets Colonel Andrew Lawton. Through carefully constructed deception, al-Shatti convinces the Americans that he possesses intelligence about enemy fighters hiding in the mountains.
His deception succeeds.
The novel subsequently follows his transition into the United States and his connection with Laaha al-Jabali, a sleeper agent already established in Miami. Together with other conspirators and Captain Kenneth Carmichael, who operates a shrimp boat, the terrorist network develops a means of moving additional operatives into the United States. The manuscript spends considerable time establishing the relationships, routines, preparations, and personalities surrounding the conspiracy before the central attack begins.
Parallel to the terrorist storyline, the novel develops the American counterterrorism side through Captain Robert Walker, Colonel Bruce Leadbetter, and Walker's specialized military unit.
Walker is portrayed as a confident and aggressive young officer responsible for a highly trained rapid-response force. His soldiers have been repeatedly drilled in hostage rescue, terrorist assaults, compromised buildings, aircraft scenarios, and other emergency situations. The training becomes particularly important because Walker's unit will eventually be confronted with the very type of domestic terrorist emergency they have been preparing for.
The novel gradually builds toward January 29, 2004.
A report reaches the American government that the Indian Point nuclear facility in New York has potentially been compromised by terrorists. The information is initially unconfirmed, but military and government officials recognize that even the possibility of a terrorist seizure of a nuclear facility requires immediate action.
President Albert Cole convenes senior military, intelligence, and scientific officials. General John White, Doctor Joel Russbinder, and other officials attempt to determine what has happened and how much danger the reactor represents.
The situation becomes dramatically more urgent when the plant's technical personnel report that the terrorists have interfered with the reactor's cooling system. According to the novel's fictionalized technical scenario, the reactor has approximately nine hours before reaching a critical stage, followed by an additional period leading toward a complete meltdown.
Meanwhile, Captain Walker and his 155 specially trained soldiers are mobilized from the Fort Bragg/Pope Air Force Base area and transported toward New York. Their mission is no longer theoretical training.
They are going into a live terrorist hostage situation at a nuclear facility.
At Indian Point, Colonel al-Shatti and his terrorist force have seized the control room. Plant personnel are held hostage while the terrorists attempt to manipulate the reactor and force it toward catastrophic failure. The attackers recognize that their control of the reactor provides them with something more powerful than conventional explosives: leverage over the lives of an enormous civilian population.
Outside the facility, FBI personnel, local police, military units, nuclear specialists, and emergency responders converge on the site.
The crisis expands beyond the plant itself.
As authorities prepare for the possibility of a nuclear disaster, civilians begin attempting to flee the affected area. Roads become overwhelmed, evacuation turns chaotic, traffic jams spread across major routes, and panic and civil disorder begin to take hold.
The military response eventually centers on Walker's specialized force.
Walker meets Special Agent Milton Rosborough, who briefs him on the situation inside the facility. Approximately twenty terrorists are believed to have entered the complex, with fifteen inside the control room holding hostages and additional terrorists positioned outside to protect the operation.
Walker remains confident, but the circumstances are unlike any ordinary hostage rescue. A mistake could result in the deaths of hostages—and potentially a much greater catastrophe.
The operation becomes a complex combination of military assault and nuclear crisis management.
While Walker and his soldiers prepare to breach the facility, nuclear specialists Doctor Chase Beckner and Doctor Joel Russbinder work on a means of regaining control of the reactor through the plant's technical systems. Their efforts eventually provide a crucial breakthrough: the technicians succeed in obtaining control of the reactor and begin forcing it toward a shutdown.
But the terrorists remain inside the control room.
The military assault therefore continues.
Walker divides his soldiers into assault elements while Colonel Leadbetter works alongside him. The soldiers must overcome terrorist positions surrounding the control room while avoiding unnecessary casualties among the hostages and preventing the situation from deteriorating further.
The final assault becomes the novel's major action climax.
Walker and his soldiers fight their way into the control room. The confrontation is chaotic and deadly, with both terrorists and hostages caught in the violence. Several hostages are killed, while others survive and are rescued by Walker's soldiers.
Colonel al-Shatti survives long enough to confront Walker directly.
Eventually, Walker and the Mutt engage the terrorist leader. Al-Shatti attempts to raise his weapon, but Walker and his fellow soldier open fire. Al-Shatti is killed, bringing the principal terrorist threat inside the control room to an end.
With the terrorists eliminated, the control room is secured.
The terrorists bring the Sword of Justice to America's doorstep. Walker's soldiers answer it.

Walker and his soldiers believe that determined action can stop them.

ONE-PARAGRAPH PUBLISHING DESCRIPTION
God's Sword of Justice is a military counterterrorism thriller following a terrorist operation years in the making as it moves from Afghanistan into the United States and culminates in the seizure of the Indian Point nuclear facility in New York. Colonel Mahathir Abdullah al-Shatti has spent years developing the deception and infrastructure necessary to penetrate America, while Captain Robert Walker and his elite counterterrorism soldiers have been training for the possibility of exactly such an attack. When terrorists seize the Indian Point control room and threaten to push the reactor toward catastrophic failure, Walker's unit is deployed alongside FBI agents, emergency responders, and nuclear specialists. With hostages trapped inside, the reactor deteriorating, and the clock running down, Walker must lead his soldiers into one of the most dangerous assaults of their careers. The terrorists have the control room. The reactor is becoming a weapon. And Walker has only one chance to stop them.
FINAL PORTFOLIO STATEMENT
