What a book portfolio holds, and which novels have one
Twelve book portfolios by Stephen Francis Montagna, each a page-turn flipbook with the novel’s overview, synopsis, characters, themes and, for some, settings and story structure.
A book portfolio is the author’s own presentation of a novel: an overview, a synopsis, the principal characters, the themes and often the settings and story structure. They are not excerpts of the novels, with one exception—the Birth of Wind portfolio includes a short scene. Each opens as a page-turn flipbook, with a “Read as text” view for screen readers and phones.
Twelve novels have one: Beyond Yesterday, Birth of Wind, The Warning of Ramses, IFF: Identify Friend or Foe, The Paradise of the Devil, God’s Sword of Justice, Trump’s Brass Escalator, The Vulture Will Lead You to Death, Sandstorm, Bio-Level Three, Massive Vinegar Joe Platform and Code Cold Fire Alert.
Questions about the book portfolios
Do the book portfolios contain spoilers?
Some do. Several include a full synopsis written for agents and editors, and the Warning of Ramses portfolio says plainly that it reveals the ending. Read the novel page first if you want the story fresh.
Is a book portfolio the first chapter?
No. A portfolio describes the novel—its story, characters and themes—rather than reproducing it.
