READER’S GUIDE
Code Cold Fire Alert by Stephen Francis Montagna is a chemical weapons containment thriller. A containment failure. A lone colonel. The final safeguard.
Code Cold Fire Alert is a techno-thriller about the most dangerous clean-up job in America. The United States holds a vast store of chemical and biological weapons and builds two plants to destroy them. The crews are locked inside for three weeks at a time, under orders that if a spill happens and they cannot handle it, nobody tries to escape: they die in place.
A spill happens. The doctors disconnect the plant’s small nuclear sterilizing device and try to get out. A lone colonel goes the other way, into the containment side, to put a battery backup on the device—knowing that if it comes to it he will set it off by hand, ten inches from his face. The editorial review published with the novel puts a covert military installation, Fort Tilden, and a deadly agent called “Three, Four, Seven” at the heart of the story.
